At Spurgeons, we believe every child deserves someone who will listen. Our professional counselling services support children, young people and families through some of life’s toughest challenges, including anxiety, bereavement, trauma, and family breakdown.

We offer a flexible range of support tailored to each child’s needs, including face-to-face sessions in our centres, school-based counselling, and secure online counselling for young people and parents. Using creative and therapeutic approaches, our counsellors create a safe space to help children build resilience, understand their emotions, and take positive steps forward.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Provide online one-to-one counselling for children and young people, offering safe, supportive and professional sessions.
  • Act on safeguarding concerns appropriately and liaise with safeguarding leads, parents, and professionals where required.
  • Work independently while keeping accurate records, managing referrals, evaluations, and consent forms.
  • Collaborate with schools, social care teams, and health providers to support the wellbeing of children and families.
  • Maintain professional standards through supervision, training, and CPD, staying up to date with legislation and best practice.
  • Represent Spurgeons positively, reflecting our ethos and commitment to transforming the lives of children and young people.

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified to Level 5 Diploma (minimum Level 4) in Counselling Children and Young People.
  • Registered member of a recognised professional counselling body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, NCPS, PTUK).
  • At least 100 counselling hours with children and 100 hours with adults, ideally including school-based experience.
  • Confident working independently with strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and the challenges faced by children and young people.
